Week 1/11/16-1/15/16

On Tuesday 1/11/16
We will finish our descriptive paragraphs of an event. Students need to make sure they use their checklist to ensure they will receive a 100%. The essay will be graded as a test grade. 
Then we will have a multiple choice quiz about the reading "Water and Living Things". Students can study for this quiz by using the Quizlet https://quizlet.com/_1rk0kh and the workbooks. 



On Thursday 1/13/16

We will begin a new unit about Journeys. Our first reading is a myth from Greek mythology from "Tales from the Odyssey". ​We will begin with literary vocabulary and academic words. We will also be completing a word study about root words vict, laps, vis, mem, and mand. Use the quizlet to study these words because they will be on this reading's quiz. https://quizlet.com/_1vwwu2

What We Will Be Working On 1/4-1/8


This week we will complete a guided reading of the text, answer comprehension questions, practice reading for fluency, learn about cause and effect, practice subject verb agreement in simple present tense, and writing a descriptive paragraph describing an event or experience using a graphic organizer of transition words. 
 The DINs, workbook, guided reading questions, and other worksheets that go along with the activities will be the formative assessments. The essay and quiz will be the summative assessments. 

The breakdown of this week:


  • finish guided reading
  • comprehension questions
  • cause and effect with the water cycle
  • subject verb agreement (plurals (s) and is vs are)
  • write a descriptive paragraph describing an event
  • Use graphic organizer to write essay using transition words
  • multiple choice quiz
